Central Tendency

Central Tendency is a term commonly used in the world of computing to refer to a value in a set of data points that most accurately represents the data set as a whole. This value is also known as a measure of centrality, centrality measure or central point. The value is typically taken to be the average or median of a given set.

The most common measure of central tendency is the mean, which is a type of average. It is calculated by taking the sum of all values in the set and then dividing by the total number of values in the set. This produces a single value that can be compared to the rest of the values in the set.

The median is also a measure of central tendency and is the middle-most value when the data is sorted either in ascending or descending order. It is sometimes considered to be more intuitive than the mean.

The mode is another measure of central tendency and is the value that occurs the most frequently in the data set. The mode can be used to identify outliers and data points that may have a larger influence on the data set.

Central tendency is a useful tool for data analysis because it provides quick and easy summaries of the data and can also provide a starting point for further statistical analysis.
