Hibernation

Hibernation is a power-saving mode commonly found on Windows computers and laptops. It is designed to save power by suspending the computer’s current state and memory contents into a hard drive, allowing the computer to quickly resume working on the same task with minimal power consumption.

When in hibernation, the computer will go through a process similar to when you shut down the computer, with the main difference being that the computer does not completely turn off the power. Rather, the computer only shuts off certain components, such as the monitor, saving more power in the process.

The main benefit of hibernation is that it allows you to quickly resume working on the same task, including any open documents or applications, without losing any work, while also saving energy. It is especially useful when you plan on leaving your computer, as it allows it to quickly resume when you need to use it again, while still offering protection against data loss or work accidents when its there and you forget to close all your open applications.

Hibernation can be activated on most Windows computers and laptops by pressing the “hibernate” button in the shutdown menu. You can also set the computer to automatically enter hibernation at a specified time in the power settings menu.

It is important to note that hibernation will not be available on computers that have solid-state drives, as the logic board and RAM will need to be powered on for data to be written to the drive. Additionally, some older motherboards may not support the hibernation mode.
