Free Proxy List: What Each Term Means
Here’s a quick guide to the most important terms you’ll find in our free proxy list. Understanding these terms will help you choose the right proxies based on their location, performance, and privacy features.
IP Address: The specific number used to identify each proxy server online.
Port: The access point number for connecting to the proxy server.
Protocols: The types of connections supported.
- HTTP: The standard protocol for transferring web pages and data over the internet. It is not encrypted, which makes it less secure for sensitive information.
- HTTPS: An extension of HTTP that uses encryption (SSL/TLS) to secure data transmission. It is widely used for secure communications on the web.
- SOCKS4: A proxy protocol that relays data packets between client and server using TCP. It does not support authentication or UDP.
- SOCKS5: An upgraded version of SOCKS4, supporting authentication, UDP, and DNS queries through the proxy, providing more flexibility and security.
Anonymity: How well the proxy hides your IP, from low to high.
- Unknown: The anonymity level isn’t specified, so the privacy features are unclear.
- Transparent: Reveals your IP address and identifies itself as a proxy.
- Anonymous: Hides your IP address but identifies itself as a proxy.
- Elite: Hides your IP address and does not identify itself as a proxy, offering the highest level of privacy.
Country / City: The location where the proxy server is based.
ISP: The company providing the proxy’s internet connection.
Latency: Measures how fast the proxy sends data back and forth, expressed in milliseconds (ms). The lower this value, the more preferable the proxy, as it indicates faster response times.
Uptime: Indicates the reliability of the proxy, shown as a percentage of time it’s active. During proxy checks, we send multiple requests to the proxy. A 100% uptime means the proxy was available for every request, while 50% means it was only available half the time. The higher the value, the more reliable the proxy is.
Last Checked: The most recent date and time when the proxy was tested to ensure it’s working properly.
